Scientific findings are beginning to show that not only what you eat, but the time of your meals and various nutrients that are ingested can actually have amazing affects on both the moods and behavior of humans.

These new studies are also showing that food, and the nutrients contained within certain food can be used to treat various problems like insomnia, chronic pain, depression, and even bulimia.

I am founder of new self recovery program from bulimia have taken these findings one step further and used them to reveal both the cause and the cure for bulimia, an eating disorder that many people deal with.

Back in the 1980s, scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that that eating foods containing certain nutrients can actually affect and change the chemical balances of the brain.

These studies also hypothesized that by changing the diet you can change the way your body feels and they way you behave as well.

One example of these findings is that many people feel relaxed and calm after eating foods that are high in carbohydrates, and the studies showed that eating these foods can actually raise the levels of serotonin in the brain, which is a brain chemical that actually is associated with those feelings.

These studies again correspond with cure for bulimia. Chemically, low levels of serotonin contribute to the continuation of the bulimic cycle.

Since those suffering from Bulimia have very low serotonin levels, the problem is actually within the brain and the amount of brain chemicals released within. In this case, the lack of seratonin actually affects the behavior of people, and while many people turn to drugs for help, a more healthy cure for this problem is available.

Since those who are dealing with Bulimia have low levels of seratonin in the brain, the logical cure would be to elevate those levels of seratonin.

Some doctors use various drugs to try and accomplish this, but since diet and the nutrients in the food have been found to affect mood and behavior, what you eat can actually help you recover from Bulimia.

When those suffering with Bulimia crave food, it is not actually the food they are craving, but the nutrients within the food that affects the levels of various chemicals within the brain.

Once you can realize what your brain is craving and lacking, then you can tailor your diet so that your body receives what it needs.

While the saying: You are what you eat, has been around for many years, recent studies are actually proving that saying to be true.

Moods and behaviors are actually affected by what you eat. Instead of trying a variety of medications to combat Bulimia or instead of totally giving up hope, it may be as simple as changing your diet to win the battle over this problem. I am recoverd bulimic and I am offering help and hope for those who are suffering from this problem.

I have dealt with bulimia myself.Discover how you can end your problem with Bulimia once and for all, by choosing foods that affect your mood and behavior.

When walking down the aisles of higher quality grocery stores these days, you may now come across a number of tags promoting products as gluten-free. What does this mean? Is this like fat or carbs — should you be minimizing your consumption of gluten for some reason? Well no, not necessarily, unless you specifically have a condition that makes you sensitive to it.

So What Is Gluten?

While people often refer to gluten as a protein, it actually represents a component of proteins called peptides. These peptides are different in the different grains considered to contain gluten and which must be avoided in gluten-free diets. In rye, the protein is called secalin; in barley, it is called hordein; and in wheat it is called gliadin.

People with a specific sensitivity to these peptides must strictly avoid them or face potentially very serious consequences. This sensitivity is often diagnosed as celiac disease (CD) or celiac sprue disease, however some people who test negatively for celiac disease may still suffer from some degree of gluten sensitivity.

It is important to recognize that the gluten-free phenomenon is not a diet fad or marketing ploy. It is a necessary diet for people with a specific medical condition.

What is Celiac Disease?

Celiac sprue disease is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system produces too much of a specific antibody when it detects gluten in the body. These antibodies attack the walls of the intestine, slowly killing the hair-like villi that lines the intestinal wall and helps absorb nutrients from the foods we eat and digest. As the villi are worn down, your body is less and less able to obtain those vital nutrients from your food and you become malnourished over time.

People with celiac disease also usually have an unusually permeable intestinal wall, meaning that undigested gluten and other nutrients may pass through your intestinal wall into your blood without being properly digested.

The only real treatment for celiac sprue disease is a strict gluten-free diet for life.

What Causes Celiac Disease Symptoms?

So why would someone have such an immune response? Why would the body attack itself like that? To be completely honest, we don’t entirely understand why just yet. However, current evidence indicates that exposure to these proteins and a genetic predisposition must be present before celiac disease will occur. Additionally, some people believe some sufferers also require some kind of trigger, such as stress or another medical condition which makes the body more susceptible to the autoimmune response.

Another theory is that the presence of certain bacteria in the intestines, or lack thereof, may trigger celiac disease in those predisposed to it. The changing profile of gut bacteria over the course of one’s lifetime may explain the delayed onset of celiac disease in some people but not others.

How Does One Treat Celiac Disease?

As I hinted earlier, the only real treatment for celiac disease is a gluten-free diet for life. You must begin here and any other treatment must only be supplemental to a strict gluten elimination diet.

However, because of the theory that a permeable intestinal wall and a problem with gut bacteria may be related to celiac disease, it would be good idea to help your intestine as best as you can. Specifically, I suggest a quality enteric-coated probiotic supplement. The enteric coating helps the probiotic reach your intestine instead of just being digested and absorbed earlier in the digestive process.

The following analysis uses Google data sets. Previous Gluten Free Pages research showed that the UK started with a healthy ‘search per celiac per month’ value of 2.2 in 2004. However, while Australia was in front of the UK and remains so, by 2008 both the USA and Canada had overtaken this GFP market measure value. The UK gluten free online demand (searches) trend has been very flat over the last five years, until last year.

When the top 50 monthly gluten associated searches are segmented into seven subcategories (see table below), it can be seen that each of the categories received a similar increase. While these increases are very large, it was found that all other leading gluten free online demand countries experienced an even stronger growth increase.

The first thing to notice about the gluten free search terms is that the top 50 Google Gluten associated search terms increased over the last year from 809K to 1.3M (+62%). The main group’s (gluten free) key phrases absolute volume changes were to gluten (201K -> 301K) and gluten free ( 135K -> 246K searches).

TOP 50 proportions

The composition of the proportions of each group are significantly different from the standard proportions experienced by other leading online demand countries. For example, the USA NOV 2009 gluten free group proportion data shows what is considered to be the standard proportions representative of leading ‘celiac searches per month’ countries (eg: USA, Canada, Australia).

The proportion of the top 50’s main generic gluten free group remained stable at 46% of the top 50 searches and the second largest group ‘celiacs’ decreased from 24% to 19%. The table below shows that the overall increase in the top 50 Google terms was produced by an increase in all groups search volumes.

GF GROUP………………..Search VOL 08………Volumes 2009………Increase

GF Generic………………375,700 ………………602,200………60%

Gluten diet………………23,480…………………53,900…………130%

GF Recipe ……………….58,480………………..124,000………112%

Coeliac ……………………193,180……………….251,500………30%

Wheat free……………….95,700………………..153,900………..61%

Locations…………………8,280………………….19,200…………132%

GF specific foods……54,280………………..100,200……… 85%

One of the more interesting trends is the growth in the GF specific food group. In that group the leading phrases are still GF bread and flour, however a significant number of people are starting to search for cakes, ‘dairy free gluten’ and chocolate.

LONG TERM GROWTH

Google permits trend analysis on individual terms, but plotting the top 50 that comprise the main analysis would provide little useful insight. The phrase ‘gluten free’ represents 41% of ALL searches within the generic group so its two year trend is plotted below as a proxy.

It is noted that not all subregions of the UK have trend data available, however England trend data shows almost an exact match to UK data.

Previous GFP trend line research and analysis for the UK shows that there is no particular seasonal trend. This is unusual in that most other leading gluten free search countries show strong seasonal trends over the last five years. The linear forecast over the past year extrapolates to a growth of 23% for this one term (compared with 10% for 2008).

The following table shows the Dec 2009 leading gluten free search citites in the UK, and their relative strength.

UK City ………………………GF Search Importance

St Albans ……………………1.0

Thames Ditton……………0.67

Milton Keynes……………0.605

Reading……………………..0.595

Sheffield…………………….0.575

Oxford………………………..0.57

Watford……………………..0.57

Hull…………………………….0.545

Poplar………………………..0.54

Edinburgh…………………..0.535

CONCLUSION

Previous analysis on UK searches up to 2008 showed that while it had a relatively high ‘celiac search per month’ value of 2.2 it had relatively flat growth. The analysis for 2009 shows that there has been significant growth in searches in the overall gluten category (top 50 terms).

The Medifast Diet has gotten lots of press lately; and for good reason. Its been shown to be very successful at its stated goal of assisting with relatively quick and comfortable weight loss.

The diet program involves almost complete meal replacements. These replacements are custom designed for maximum nutrient content as well as low calories (naturally). Their usual diet plan involves using these meal replacements 5 times day, as well as having one “lean and green” meal each day that you prepare yourself; which typically is comprised of some veggies and a lean piece of meat.

The meal replacements come in many varieties of shakes, bars, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, soups, puddings, etc. You don’t go hungry since you are eating every 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

The Medifast weight loss solution has been shown to be effective by many studies. It’s more appropriate for someone who wants to lose more than twenty pounds; since such an extensive use of replacement meals is a significant lifestyle change. But if you want to lose more than 20 lbs, then this may be the answer. Because your food intake is so controlled; you basically cannot help but lose weight. 5 lbs a week is typical.

After reaching your goal, the next phase of the program kicks in – ‘Transition’. Here you are re-introduced to regular foods, but in a planned way so that you can keep your new weight. After transitioning back to your own foods; the ‘Maintenance’ program activates, which is designed to help you make healthy food choices and get appropriate exercise.

The best thing to do is to have a look at their site (linked below) and go from there.

Natural skin care products are gaining popularity. In addition to the popularity of natural beauty products, many people are also interested in other types of green tea skin products, such as those that can be used for healing cuts and minimizing the appearance of scars. A third area of interest for botanical products is anti-aging.

You’ll find numerous products on the market that are made from natural products. Some of the most popular botanicals used in skin care products include:

?	Lavender
?	Rosemary
?	Ginger
?	Green Tea
?	Lemon
?	Grapeseed
?	Echinacea

Since products of this nature are largely unregulated by the US Food and Drug Administration, claims on the products are sometimes largely unsubstantiated. In most cases, we just have to try these products out and see for ourselves.

However, one of these products, green tea, does have some evidence to back up its claims of rejuvenating the skin and preventing aging. Several studies have shown that green tea’s anti-oxidants are beneficial to the skin in several ways.

The first important fact about green tea is that its anti-oxidants act as scavengers on abnormal or damaged skin cells. This may be very important to helping protect us from skin cancer. If we can eradicate skin cells damaged by the sun immediately, they are less likely to develop abnormal qualities. Many doctors are now recommending that you wear a green tea moisturizer under your sunscreen. The sunscreen will protect your skin from most of the sun’s rays, but any that do get through can be mitigated by the green tea.

However, other research has shown that green tea may even be an effective treatment for those who already have cancerous or pre-cancerous skin lesions. One study, performed on mice, showed that not only did green tea seem to scavenge the abnormal cells on the mice that did not have skin cancer, but it also concluded that green tea, whether given orally or topically, slowed the progression of the cancer. In addition, scientists theorize that green tea may be able to actually kill off some of the cancer cells.

Another recent study showed that green tea may also have the ability to provide short term improvement in the skin’s appearance. The study suggested that green tea’s anti-oxidants actually have the ability to rejuvenate skin cells resting on the epidermis that are dying. The green tea helps bring the cells back to life for a period, reducing that dull and lifeless appearance skin can have.

It is believed that green tea also has the ability to reduce aging over the long term. Such claims are difficult to prove, because it requires human trials over many years. However, based on the fact that research has shown that green tea’s anti-oxidants have the ability to scavenge abnormal and dying skin cells, it stands to reason that using green tea regularly over a period of many years would produce a cumulative effect that would be positive for the skin’s condition and appearance.

Many other botanicals that are used in skin care products do have the ability to perform some helpful functions on the skin. For example, all of the natural ingredients listed above do have anti-oxidants, so they likely are good for the skin, at least to some degree. And many are suited for specific skin ailments.

For example, lavender is calming, and can be helpful in soothing redness and rashes. Lemon is an effective astringent, and is sometimes helpful for especially oily skin. The UK Tea Council published a report outlining the effects of many botanical products and their potential to protect and treat the skin.

But, most of the products containing these ingredients have not been through strenuous laboratory testing, so their effects are undocumented. In addition, some botanical products may not require regulation by the Food and Drug Administration, so they may not meet federal health standards.

Because of the attention that green tea has received due to its likely ability to prevent cancer and other diseases, it has been more widely tested than many other botanicals. It has been widely tested for topical application to see if it has the potential to prevent or treat skin cancer, for example.

So, it’s perfectly ok to use botanical products to help with any special skin conditions you’re trying to treat. Most botanical products are safe, as long as you don’t have an allergy to them. And, they may be helpful at treating some skin conditions and at keeping skin moisturized.

But, if you’re looking for the best be in botanical products for the skin, it’s likely that green tea has the most potential. It has been more widely tested than other botanicals, and is likely to be of significant benefit, both in improving skin’s appearance and in preventing aging and skin cancer.

However, since, like other botanical products, green tea products may not have fallen under FDA guidelines, be sure to examine the list of ingredients carefully. You should ensure that green tea products actually contain active anti-oxidants, such as EGCG and theaflavins, before you purchase. Without these important ingredients, the products will likely not provide the benefits you’re seeking.

So, give green tea a try for your skin. You may see smoother and brighter skin in the short term, and you may be preventing skin cancer and aging in the long term.
